How to Choose the Right Flange Size
For the most comfortable and effective pumping experience, choose a flange size that is 2-4mm larger than your nipple measurement. Here’s a simple guide:
- 11mm nipple size → Recommended flange: 13mm or 15mm
- 15mm nipple size → Recommended flange: 17mm or 19mm
- 20mm nipple size → Recommended flange: 24mm
- 23mm nipple size → Recommended flange: 27mm
If you're unsure about sizing, feel free to reach out to us for guidance—we’re happy to help!
Spare Parts & Replacements
To keep your breast pump performing at its best, we recommend replacing the silicone parts regularly based on usage:
- Diaphragm: Replace every 6 to 8 weeks
- Valve: Replace every 4 to 5 weeks
- Flange: Replace every 5 months
All Alva pumps come with either a 24mm or 27mm flange. If you need a different size, we offer smaller flange inserts in 11mm, 13mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm, and 21mm for a personalised fit (only compatible with the 24mm flange).
If you’ve ordered the wrong size or need extra parts, you can easily purchase individual items or a complete spare parts kit here.
All Alva parts are made from BPA-free, food-grade silicone, designed for safety, comfort, and durability.
They’re also easy to assemble and clean – because your routine should be as stress-free as possible.
Easy Cleaning & Maintenance
Breast pump parts do not require sterilisation since they only come into contact with sterile breast milk. Frequent exposure to high heat can cause parts to discolour, warp, or deteriorate, leading to the need for more frequent replacements.
Unless advised otherwise by a healthcare professional, we recommend washing with warm soapy water using a soft cloth or brush. If preferred, pump parts (excluding pump motor) can also be washed in the dishwasher on a low heat cycle (40–60°C). Always ensure all parts are fully dry before use.
